Edward P. Perez

Edward ("Eddie") Perez is a member of the Board of Directors for the OSET Institute, and the former Director of Product Management for Societal Health at Twitter, Inc. Prior to Twitter, Eddie was OSET Institute’s Global Director of Technology & Standards focused on election technology data standards, certification, audit, user-centered design and security-centric engineering practices.  In his Board role at the Institute, Eddie advises on matters of election law research, technology policy research, and government relations. Eddie serves as one of the primary spokespersons for the Institute and is an elections analyst for the media, most recently for NBCUniversal and NBC News.

Eddie has 30+ years’ professional experience at the intersection of civic life and technology, including elections, technology design & development, traditional and social media, trust & safety, government, and political science. 

Prior to joining the OSET Institute, Eddie directed product management at Hart InterCivic, one of the three major voting systems vendors in the United States. On the technology-side, Eddie is co-inventor on three U.S. patents in the domain of voting technology assigned to Hart InterCivic, Inc.

Mr. Perez has been an invited speaker before The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine; The National Institute of Standards and Technology; The National Conference of State Legislatures; and has testified before the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

Major media outlets and the election technology community recognize Mr. Perez as a valuable contributor. As an experienced consultant to the media, Eddie regularly provides trusted commentary and analysis on election administration policy, security, and technology to a variety of sources. Mr. Perez has 100+ contributions to published works as author, co-author, or quoted contributor. These include The New York Times, The Washington Post, NBC News, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, POLITICO, The Associated Press, NPR, PBS, The Guardian, Barrons, and the OSET Institute.

Eddie holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and his undergraduate degree in Government from Georgetown University.
